How to convert an encrypted PDF to HTML?

You can secure an Adobe Acrobat document with a user password, which sets an encryption key so that when someone tries to open the PDF, a prompt requesting the password appears.

You can additionally set permissions or master passwords to limit actions, such as whether someone can print the document or not, though it does not prevent the document from being opened.

Sometimes you may need to convert an encrypted PDF to HTML. This allows other users without Acrobat to access the file, such as coworkers over an intranet or clients who need to view the page over a secure network.

How to Convert an Encrypted PDF to HTML

  • Launch Adobe Acrobat, select “File” and “Open,” then browse until you reach the file you wish to convert.
  • Click the “Open” button to load the file into the software. When the prompt appears, type the password into the popup window.
  • Click “File | Save As | More Options | HTML Web Page.”
  • Test the newly converted file by opening a Web browser and loading the HTML document into it.
