Elon Musk wants to build a permanent base on the moon

It was reported that Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, a space exploration technology company, said today that it is time to return to the moon and establish a permanent base there. Then, a city will be built on Mars to become a multi-planet species.

Musk believes that SpaceX can help NASA achieve its ambitious goal of getting astronauts to the moon by 2024.

Musk said today before SpaceX’s “Crew-2” mission: “I think it can be done. In fact, our goal will be earlier than this. I think it’s feasible. We are building a lot of rockets, I believe this goal will be achieved.”

Last week, SpaceX won a $2.9 billion contract from NASA. According to the contract, SpaceX will build a variant of its “Starship” rocket, sending astronauts to the moon as soon as 2024.

Musk said: “It is a great honor to be selected by NASA to allow humans to return to the moon.” In addition, Musk also emphasized SpaceX’s vision of waiting for a landing on the moon and Mars.

Musk said: “It has been nearly half a century since humans landed on the moon. This is too long. We need to go back there and build a permanent base on the moon. Then, we will build a city on Mars. , To become a space civilization, a multi-planet species. We don’t want to be a member of those single-planet species, we want to be a multi-planet species.”

Musk had previously predicted that the development of the “interstellar spacecraft” would cost about 5 billion U.S. dollars. He said today that winning the NASA manned landing system contract is really helpful because so far, most of the development of “interplanetary spacecraft” has been funded internally and is quite expensive.

Musk said: “This is a very difficult launch vehicle because we are trying to crack this fast and fully reusable rocket. To completely change space, what is really needed is a fast reusable rocket. And very reliable.”
