Android 12 is expected to bring recycle bin function in Google files

Google has restricted the way apps can access file storage in Android 11. Except for the file manager, other apps can only access specific storage through specific APIs.

One of the APIs is called the MediaStore API, which provides access to common media files, such as audio, video, and images. The app can recycle rather than delete files so that users can restore them when needed.

However, Google has not introduced a global file recycle bin for Android. In the code of Android 12, Google is adding a global file recycle bin for Android, and users can manage the recycle bin and completely empty it. This function is currently unavailable, only a pop-up window can be displayed for demonstration.

Moreover, this trash can function is not so impressive. It requires the App to actively use the MediaStore API to identify certain files as junk files. For some deliberately hidden App junk files, this method is not feasible.
