Walmart employee faces up to 20 years in prison for stealing $124,000

A 63-year-old employee of Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the United States, was accused of stealing $124,000 worth of gift cards from where he worked.

Federal prosecutors charged Wednesday that the man named Kenneth Werkau stole and activated the gift cards between September 2019 and January 2020.

He was charged with three counts of wire fraud and could face a fine of $250,000 and up to 20 years in prison.

Wilkau lives in Clarington, Ohio. He worked at a Wal-Mart store in Moundsville, West Virginia, 17 miles away, until the 2019 holiday season.
