Apple updated its executive information page, and John Ternus was listed as the senior vice president of hardware engineering to replace the former head of engineering, Dan Riccio who stepped down in January this year.
The updated web page includes links to Tenus’ work experience at Apple and a short biography. As senior vice president of hardware engineering, Tenus will report directly to CEO Tim Cook. He will be responsible for leading “all hardware engineering teams, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, AirPods, and other products behind the team”.
Tenus joined Apple’s product design team in 2001 and was promoted to vice president of hardware engineering in 2013. This executive has participated in the research and development of many major Apple products, including every iPad, iPhone 12, and AirPods, and has always acted as the spokesperson for Mac’s shift to independent research and development to deal with Apple Silicon in recent keynote speeches.

Before joining Apple, Tenus received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and worked as a mechanical engineer at Virtual Research Systems.
In January of this year, after Richio stepped down and began to lead Apple’s “new project,” Tenus was appointed as the new head of hardware. Cook valued Tenus very much. In January, he stated that Tenus’ “deep professional knowledge and extensive experience” would make him the “bold and visionary leader” of Apple’s hardware engineering team.
According to reports, Rizio’s current position as vice president of engineering has been removed from the executive information page. His new role is still unknown, but he may be overseeing the advancement of Apple’s augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) programs.
