Apple has applied for a patent for a very futuristic mattress sensor that can monitor people’s sleep and then wake them up by gently moving people in the morning.
Apple applies for a patent for a magical mattress, which can monitor sleep and act as a silent alarm clock. In the patent document, Apple claims that it is developing a “bed tactile device” that can be inserted into a mattress before sleeping.
Apple’s device can use sensors that monitor light, sound, and weight to detect where someone is sleeping and whether they are snoring. If connected to the user’s iPhone, the sensor can also act as a silent alarm clock, waking people up at a predetermined time by gently moving them.
Mattress sensors may be covered with blocks that can be inflated or deflated when needed, creating a sensation under the sleeper and gradually awakening them.
Apple stated that this device can be filled with gas or liquid to create a feeling of awakening the user. The patent application document states: “The tactile device on the bed can provide tactile output along the outer surface of the top of the mattress, and the user can perceive it through touch.
In 2017, Apple acquired Beddit, a bed sensor company, which uses sensors similar to Apple’s patented devices to track people’s sleep quality. Not all patent applications filed by Apple and other large technology companies are converted into finished products, and they are sometimes used as a form of marketing or to prevent competitors from expanding in certain areas.
Apple intends to manufacture a rugged Apple Watch designed specifically for athletes. The company plans to release a new version of smartwatches later this year or in 2022. The target customers are people who use smartwatches in extreme environments.
