Due to size restrictions, Tesla’s Semi electric semi-trailer truck may not be able to enter the Australian market. As reported, trucks on the road cannot exceed 2.5 meters in width.
However, Tesla claims that it’s Semi electric semi-trailer is 30 to 50 millimeters wider than 2.5 meters, so it cannot legally drive in Australia. To this end, Tesla calls on the Australian government to change the current road rules, otherwise its Semi electric semi-trailer truck may be delayed or unable to enter the Australian market.
Tesla launched its Semi electric semi-trailer truck in November 2017. According to the company’s announcement, with a load of 36 tons, this electric semi-trailer truck accelerates to 60 miles in only 20 seconds, which is better than a diesel truck, with a top speed of 65 miles per hour.
When launching the Semi electric semi-trailer truck, Tesla announced that the entry and high-end versions of the truck will have a range of 300 miles and 500 miles (804 kilometers), respectively.
However, in November last year, Tesla CEO Musk publicly stated that this truck will have a cruising range of more than 1,000 kilometers.
Since its launch, Tesla’s Semi electric semi-trailer truck has received orders from JB Hunt, Wal-Mart, DHL, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Pepsi, United Parcel Service, and many other companies.
Tesla’s Semi electric semi-trailer truck was initially planned for mass production in 2019 but was later delayed until the end of 2020 to start small-scale mass production.
After that, the mass production time of this car was postponed for another year, postponed to 2021. In addition to the delay in mass production, the delivery of the first batch of Semi electric semi-trailers has also been postponed to 2021.
