Foxconn intends to acquire electric car factories in Vietnam to develop foundry capabilities

Foxconn has been frequently seeking to develop in the field of electric cars. Previously, it intended to build its first electric vehicle factory in the United States. Foxconn’s parent company Hon Hai Precision has entered into early negotiations with Vietnamese automaker VinFast to seek cooperation in the field of electric vehicles.

Earlier there was news that Apple would release an electric car Apple Car, so Foxconn, as Apple’s largest foundry factory, has good reasons for seeking to build or acquire an electric car manufacturer.

During the negotiations, Foxconn expressed its hope to acquire this factory directly for the foundry of electric vehicles, while the Vietnamese company VinFast tends to retain its own brand and produce electric vehicles in a cooperative manner.

Foxconn intends to invest up to 700 million U.S. dollars in Vietnam for the foundry production of notebook computers, tablet computers, and other products. Foxconn Chairman Liu Yangwei recently stated that Foxconn is working hard to finalize a joint venture agreement with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

He declined to say how Apple plans to build the car. He also stated that Foxconn’s goal is to make electric vehicles built on its own MIH platform account for 10% of global electric vehicles by 2025.
