Tesla plans to invest in Indonesia: May be related to key raw materials of batterys

As per the report, Indonesia’s deputy head of investment and mining coordination, Septian Hario Seto, told reporters on Friday that the country has received US electric vehicle manufacturing. Discuss Tesla’s investment proposal.

Septian said: “I received their (Tesla) proposal yesterday morning. We will meet with the company next week (online) to get the company’s official instructions.

According to the Septian,  because the two parties signed a non-disclosure agreement, he could not reveal the details of the proposal, but he revealed that the focus of the discussion between the two parties will be batteries and energy storage solutions.

 

If the cmpany just wants to buy raw materials, then we are not interested. This proposal is not just as simple as buying raw materials from us. Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of nickel, which is a key raw material used in electric vehicle batteries.

Previously, the country has been publicly attracting Tesla to invest locally. Indonesia hopes to develop its electric vehicle and battery industries, and for this reason, An ambitious plan was formulated.

Tesla said last year that they are looking for a reliable source of nickel ore around the world. The company has previously warned that the current battery cost is still an obstacle to the company’s growth.

Additionally, Indonesia used to be the world’s largest nickel exporter, but the country stopped the export of nickel last year, aiming to establish a complete nickel supply chain, starting from the mining of raw ore, and then processing it into batteries used in batteries. Metals and chemicals to meet market demand for electric vehicle batteries.
