Redmi 9 grabbing new update along with January 2021 security patch

Xiaomi is releasing the January 2021 Android security patch for Redmi 9 smartphones. Currently, the update is only accessible in global and Turkey markets, may soon be sent to other regions.

Besides the security patch, the official changelog for Redmi 9 in Globe doesn’t mention any new features or major changes. Also, users can easily identify the update via the Android 10 based on MIUI 12.

But the update in Turkey mentions a bunch of optimizations, fixes, and new functions/features. The update optimizes full-screen gestures, they are now ignored on the lock screen alarm page.

It further optimizes animations in selected scenes, Control center layout in landscape mode, and brightness as well as color improvements for wallpapers in Dark mode.

Moreover, it adds a new function, users can now swipe down from the upper left corner to open notification shade and from the upper right corner to open the control center.

The Chinese OEM Xiaomi is currently working on providing an Android 11 update for several Redmi, Mi, Poco, and Black Shark devices. In the meantime, the company is also sending monthly, quarterly security patches to its devices.
