Huawei releases new update for Huawei 8X with new security patch

Huawei is releasing the latest update of the old Honor 8X smartphone. This update will install a new November 2020 security patch to improve system security and device stability. In addition to improving security, this update does not add any new features to the smartphone.

The older Honor 8X was originally released with EMUI 8.0 and is currently running on EMUI 10.0. However, the device is no longer eligible for any major upgrades, including EMUI 10.1 or EMUI 11.

To be mentioned, the last update of Honor 8X brought September 2020 security patch, which was released in October 2020. And after a long gap, the company has released a new update for Honor 8X because it is not part of the regular update cycle.

Other than this, Huawei has also kicked off December 2020 security patch for Honor X10 and 20 Youth Editon that enhances the device security and overall performance.

Updated Version:

  • Honor 8X smartphone users getting EMUI 10.0.0.239 with an update size of 449MB.
  • Honor X10 smartphone users getting Magic UI 3.1 version 3.1.1.182 upgraded from 3.1.1.178.
  • Honor 20 Youth Edition getting EMUI 10.1 version 10.1.0.152 upgraded from 10.1.0.151.

The update is currently rolling out in Europe and will soon expand to the other regions as well. Also, the update is currently rolling out in batches so it may take time to reach your device.

  • Security: Integrates Android security patches released in November/December 2020 for improved system security.
  • November 2020 Security Patch Details: November 2020 security update install security fixes for different levels of exploits and issues within Honor phones including 3 critical and 15 high levels of CVEs.
  • December 2020 Security Patch Details: December 2020 security patch update install security fixes for different levels of exploits and issues within Honor phones including 1 critical and 11 high levels of CVEs.

How to update:

Download via Settings:

  • Open Settings
  • Click on the System & updates
  • Open Software update
  • Tap on Check for updates option
  • If an update is available, click on Download and install
  • After installation Reboot the device

Download via Support app:

  • Open the Support app on your device
  • Go to the Service tab
  • Click on the update button
  • Tap on Check for update option
  • If an update is available, click on Download and install
  • After installation Reboot the device
