SpaceX purchased two oil rigs to build a floating launch pad for ‘Starship’rocket

According to reports, Elon Musk’s SpaceX company purchased two deep-water oil rigs last year and converted them into floating launch pads. Supported by the development of a massive ‘Starship’ rocket.

The two drilling rigs are located in the Port of Brownsville, very close to the SpaceX interstellar spacecraft development facility in Boca Chica, Texas.

‘Interplanetary spacecraft’ is a large rocket being developed by SpaceX. Its purpose is to meet Musk’s important goals, namely launching payloads to the moon and sending up to 100 people to the moon and Mars at one time.

The rocket is currently SpaceX’s most important job. In a test flight in December last year, SpaceX sent the interplanetary spacecraft to the highest altitude so far.

During that test flight, the prototype of the interstellar spacecraft climbed to a height of approximately 40,000 feet (12,000 meters) and completed several development goals, but it exploded after hitting the ground while attempting to land.

Public records show that SpaceX purchased the two ‘ultra-deepwater semi-submersible’ oil rigs from a company called Valaris, each priced at 3.5 million U.S. dollars. Valaris is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

It is the world’s largest offshore oil rig owner. It filed for bankruptcy protection in August last year because it sought to relieve its heavy debt burden. Public records show that the purchaser of the two drilling platforms was a limited liability company called Lone Star Mineral Development, and the purchase time was July 2020.

The company was established in June 2020, registered under the name of SpaceX Chief Financial Officer Bret Johnsen (Bret Johnsen). The company did not respond to a request for comment.

Shortly before the establishment of Lone Star Mineral Development, Musk said in a tweet that SpaceX plans to “build a floating super-heavy spaceport for hypersonic travel around Mars, the moon, and the earth.”

Since last year, SpaceX has been openly recruiting offshore jobs. At that time, the company declared that it was establishing a team of engineers and technicians aimed at designing and building an offshore rocket launch facility.”

Additionally, at noon this Tuesday, the company’s recruitment page also showed two temporary offshore positions at the Port of Brownsville, one of which was an electrician, requiring applicants to be able to upgrade the marine electrical system.’
