Apple A17 and Intel take over TSMC’s 3nm production capacity

According to the news, industry sources, TSMC is scheduled for the majority (more than the US $ 15 billion) of the $ 25 billion to $ 28 billion in 2021 supported mainly applied for the 3-nanometer production process, Currently, TSMC’s 3nm process orders have been covered by Apple’s Mac chips, A17 chips used in iPhones and iPads, and Intel CPUs.

The whistleblower noticed out that Intel had begun discussions with TSMC a few months ago on the initial R&D and order scale, and will confirm more details of cooperation in the near future.

According to sources, TSMC’s 3nm process is another full-node new technology after 5nm. It is currently supposed to be trial production in 2021 and mass production in the second half of 2022.

The monthly production capacity is supposed to reach 55,000 pieces. In 2023, the volume will be completely increased, and the highest in a single month will be 105,000.

Additionally to Apple’s A17 and Intel orders, major chipmakers including AMD, Nvidia, and Qualcomm, which will embrace Samsung’s 5nm in 2020, have all scheduled 2024 capacity.

The current 5nm production capacity of TSMC is mainly based on a variety of Apple chips. The whistleblower revealed that TSMC’s first batch of 3nm main orders will still be based on Apple chips, while Intel’s CPU production will be conducted through Intel’s own 7nm and TSMC’s 3nm.

Additionally, Intel is currently cooperating with TSMC on GPU production, but because the first wave of orders is not large, it does not have much impact on TSMC.
