Qualcomm QC5 charger leaked, with new protocol supports charging power over 100W

On January 04 (Today), the charging head network exposed a Qualcomm QC5 charger. This charger is white all over, not small in size, marked with the QC5 logo, and has a single USB-C port output.

In July 2020, Qualcomm announced a new fast-charging technology called Qualcomm Quick Charging 5 (QC 5). Qualcomm claims that this new standard will charge a 4500mAh battery from 0 to 50% in 5 minutes, and to 100% in 15 minutes.

According to reports, the performance of Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 is significantly improved compared to the previous generation platform, the charging efficiency is 70% higher than that of Quick Charge 4, and the output power is 10 times that of Quick Charge 1. The solution supports a 2S battery and 20V power output.

The charging speed of Quick Charge 5 is 4 times that of the previous generation platform. In addition to supporting extremely fast charging, Quick Charge 5 also supports excellent safety features-supporting 12-level voltage, current, and temperature protection, such as 25V USB input overvoltage protection and 30V or more external charging power control.

Its operating temperature is also 10 degrees Celsius lower than Quick Charge 4. Quick Charge 5 supports dual charge/triple charge technology, adaptive input voltage, fourth-generation optimal voltage intelligent negotiation (INOV4) algorithm, Qualcomm Battery Saver battery health management, and new Qualcomm adapter power intelligent identification technology, which will be implemented together Maximize the charging efficiency, enhance safety and help extend the battery life of the user terminal.

Qualcomm has stated that Quick Charge 5 is expected to become the first commercial fast charging platform that provides charging power of more than 100W for smartphones. In August 2020, the Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition will be compatible with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 5 technology.
