MicroLED next generation display technology could soon replace OLED screens

Micro LED (known as the next-generation display technology), although consumers are not very familiar with it at present, Apple will soon be commercialized to promote such products. After all, this is used to perfectly replace OLED.

Since it is to be commercialized, it is necessary to solve the mass production of Micro LED. According to foreign media reports, the Canadian company VueReal announced a breakthrough in its Micro LED screen technology with a yield rate of 99.9996%. The company has been committed to researching Micro LED chips with flip-chip structure.

It is understood that VueReal’s light-emitting chip is only 8 microns in size, and its production process is based on a two-step mesa process, using a through-hole process with other manufacturers, which will result in a fragile structure, lower yield, and sensitivity to ESD. Of course, the most important thing is that its process steps are not only as simple as vertical Micro LEDs but also compatible with existing LED manufacturing plants.

Compared with LCD and OLED displays, Micro LED screens have several advantages, including thinner and more energy-efficient. For example, the power consumption of a Micro LED screen is only one-tenth of that of an LCD display, and the color saturation is close to that of an OLED.

In addition, Micro LED can support higher brightness, higher dynamic range, and wider color gamut, while also achieving faster update speed, wider viewing angle, and lower power consumption.

As the development of Micro LED technology is difficult, it is expected that early designs will rely on mini LEDs that are between traditional LED and Micro LED technology. However, according to previous reports, Apple still believes that Micro LED technology is a “top priority.”
