Sony to prepare new photo sensor with Oppo for Find X3 Pro

According to information from the Chinese leaker DigitalChatStation, published on Weibo, Oppo and Sony are currently testing a new photosensor, the IMX789. Quite logically, this would be the successor sensor to last year’s IMX689. Above all, this sensor should be integrated into Oppo’s next high-end model, expected early next year, the Oppo Find X3 Pro.

For now, we do not yet know what the characteristics of this sensor will be. Nevertheless, Oppo has struck a big blow this year with its Find X2 Pro. The main sensor is indeed particularly bright with a format of “1 / 1.43” approaching the one-inch format. The IMX689 was also capable of capturing 48-megapixel shots with 1.12-micron photosites.

Logically, the Oppo Find X3 Pro should offer even more interesting optical characteristics. However, it is unclear whether Oppo and its supplier, Sony, will favor a larger format, higher definition sensor, or both.

As a reminder, the Oppo Find X3 Pro should be officially presented in early 2021. It should be equipped with a 6.7-inch screen with a density of 525 pixels per inch and an adaptive refresh rate of 10 to 120 Hz. According to information from leaker Evan Blass, it would also benefit from two 50-megapixel sensors for the wide-angle and the ultra-wide-angle, as well as a telephoto lens associated with a 13-megapixel sensor.
