New Windows 10X version will bring a modern file explorer

Microsoft said that Windows 10X will initially be an operating system optimized for dual-screen products such as Surface Neo, but it will first appear on traditional laptops.

According to the latest news, the final version of Windows 10X will include a new modern file explorer based on OneDrive, which is also part of Microsoft’s strategy of prioritizing network storage over local storage.

This version of File Explorer cancels the deep-rooted “My Computer” and “This Computer” path functions in users’ hearts, and at the same time cancels almost all the old components of the classic file explorer, such as network and properties, but it can still access any local Or OneDrive files. At a certain level, the current file explorer in Windows 10 is part of the Windows Shell function. It can help users browse folders and files more intuitively, but it also includes other features.

According to reports, this modern version of File Explorer is an independent program that can help users access local disks and OneDrive files. In a sense, Microsoft’s Windows 10X is equivalent to Google’s Chrome OS, so it is not difficult to understand the launch of this type of file explorer.

In addition, Microsoft has also disabled support for applications such as File Explorer extensions or OpenShell in Windows 10X. In addition to the classic file explorer, Windows 10X cancels UWP applications such as mail and calendar and desktop Office applications and requires users to use Office and Outlook Web programs.

According to currently known news, Microsoft has already developed the Windows 10X system, but will not publicly test it. It is expected to arrive as early as the first half of next year. At least in the second half of 2021 or early 2022, desktop application support for Windows 10X will be launched.

In other respects, although the final version of Windows 10X lacks support for Win32 applications, it can be transmitted over the Internet using a new service called “Cloud PC”, so there is no need to install it locally.
