Microsoft working on new UI changes for ‘Your Phone’ application

According to the latest report, Microsoft is testing the new design and adjustments of the Windows 10 system and pre-installed applications. Now, Microsoft seems to be testing the new UI adjustments of the Windows 10 Your Phone application, which will introduce rounded corners to make the application closer to WinUI design guidelines.

Microsoft sources believe that before the release of the Windows 10 21H2 “Sun Valley” upgrade, most of the built-in or pre-installed applications will receive rounded corners and other UI improvements.

In the past few months, rounded corner UI elements have been appearing in Windows 10 applications, including calculators and calendars. Obviously, the technology giant is planning to propose “round corners” as a standard design language next year.

The Windows 10 Your Phone preview app has been updated with rounded corners of the buttons. It should be noted that the Your Phone application already has a rounded corner menu, but Microsoft is now extending the rounded edge to more pages of the application.

In addition to the “Your Phone” application, Microsoft also confirmed that the Edge 88 browser will be equipped with rounded corner icons and Fluent UI improvements.

Of course, these changes are far from reaching a significant level, but they will definitely make it clearer that Microsoft has made a big bet on the edge of the round UI in Windows 10.

Last month, users noticed that Microsoft is trying to use circular buttons and menus in the “Alarm and Clock” application. Similarly, in the design simulation diagram released by Microsoft, the rounded corners of the taskbar search bar and the “Start” menu were also found.

It can be said that, compared with the current sharp edges, rounded corners bring a more modern and fresh look to the Windows 10 UI, but at the same time, the introduction of rounded corners UI may bring another problem of inconsistent design.

According to the latest information in the rumor, Windows 10 21H1 service pack update will be launched in the spring of 2021.

On the other hand, the major UI upgrade will be released next fall. We have already seen simulated screenshots of the rounded edges of the application window, but it is unclear whether it will be included in the rumored “21H2” upgrade.
